Governor Perry’s Call to Prayer and Fasting

Dear South Texas District Ministers,

Greetings in the lovely name of Jesus!

God is doing great things in the South Texas District. Governor Rick Perry has called a “Day of Prayer and Fasting” for Saturday, August 6, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Governor Perry has invited everyone to join him on August 6 at the Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas, for “a solemn day of prayer and fasting on behalf of our troubled nation.” The South Texas District is going to join Governor Perry in prayer on this day. We are asking all churches in the South Texas District to be involved in this “Day of Prayer and Fasting.”
Everyone is encouraged to attend the “Day of Prayer and Fasting” at the Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas.

Please see the links below. Everyone is invited to attend the Prayer Event. The event is free but we all must register. The first link is for registration.

If you and/or the church is unable to attend this event, we are encouraging you to please plan a prayer event on this day to pray for our nation.

2 Chronicles 7:14 reads, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Thank you so much for your burden to pray for our nation.

God Bless You.

Prayer Coordinator

Purpose Institute

South Texas District Ministers,

Greetings to each of you!

I rejoice with you concerning the many blessings God is pouring out across our district. Our district has witnessed the sure hand of God at work with souls saved, bodies and minds healed, churches grown, and new works planted. What a great God we serve!

As we move forward into this great, bountiful harvest, the need is ever before us – 11th-hour laborers. We need the next and perhaps final generation of workers to extend their sickles into a field ripe for harvest.

Our district has utilized many methods to train leaders. In just a few weeks, a new training program will be added to our regimen: Purpose Institute. Eight campuses – one for each section – will be started in local churches across our district. Presbyters and select pastors from each section will teach the well-rounded, apostolic curriculum to people involved or interested in ministry.

I urge each of you to consider what role you can play in the development of these campuses. Perhaps you would like to be a teacher or a student. You may ask to host one of these campuses in your church. There may be people in your family or church who need such training. Check with your presbyter for how you can be involved.

We all lead such busy lives. Purpose Institute strengthens the hands of individual pastors by providing a cooperative training effort for people who will labor effectively in the local church.

Training the next generation of ministers is a task near and dear to our hearts. Not only will this endeavor accelerate their growth, we also magnify the possibility of growth in the local church.

Our district has asked Pastor Darren Shelton to direct our Purpose Institute partnership. Dozens of people are preparing for the opening of the campuses this Fall.

Enclosed please find an informational brochure about this program. Let’s join hearts and minds to see God do a great work in our area through this training program.

Sincerely,

Ken Gurley

Superintendent’s Update

Greetings to each of you!

I hope that you are enjoying a productive and perhaps restful summer. May God give you the time to rejuvenate for the days of harvest ahead.

Ministerial Involvement

One of the four stated reasons for the beginning of the South Texas District was ministerial involvement. Not only are we seeing more people involved in various offices, we are seeing more ministers involved in building churches.

Take a look at the 10 largest districts in terms of churches and daughter works. Of these, the South Texas has the lowest ratio of ministers to churches. This means our district has been successful in involving ministers in the harvest. To God be the glory for this!

Superintendent’s Update

Dear Ministers,

Greetings in the name of the Lord!

Our ministers like fellowship! That was the judgment of the 220 ministers and spouses who gathered at the Texas Old Town in Kyle for barbecue and fellowship. Gumaro Sarreon and Danny Johnson provided some musical entertainment. Our founding Superintendent and First Lady, David and Connie Bernard, joined with us at this festive occasion that became a great prayer meeting at the close.

The following morning saw the ladies give honor to Barbara Minton for her years of service to the South Texas District. The ministers conducted the business of selecting individuals to fill various offices. On Tuesday evening, WEC representative Ronnie Mullings preached on “Not Many Fathers.”

The Passing of Barbara Minton

Dear South Texas Ministers:

I regret to inform you of the homegoing of Sister Barbara Minton. She passed from this life this evening after a few days’ stay in the hospital. She is the wife of one our ministers, Brother Terry Minton, and the daughter of the late Brother E. L. Holley. She spent the last few years serving the South Texas District as the executive secretary and was dear to all of our hearts.

Although we know that our loss is Heaven’s gain, we will certainly miss her and our hearts are with her family and church family at this time. Please be in prayer for them and for Brother Gurley and his family during this time.

More details on the arrangements will follow.

May God bless you,

Greetings!

Revival Conferences

The Greater-Houston Regional Revival Conference was held on Thursday and Friday, February 17-18. Due to the unavailability of a large venue, this opening conference was limited largely to the ministers and spouses of the three Houston-area sections.

About 130 ministers were present for business sessions and evening crowds bumped over 700. The Friday night service featured the anointed revival preaching of Anthony Mangun. God moved in a great way.

The next Regional Revival Conference for the Austin-Hill Country, Southwest, and Central Coastal Bend sections will take place on March 31-April 1 at the Embassy Suites in San Marcos, Texas. Please book your rooms for this event at the soonest possible date.

Prayer Conference Update

Dear South Texas Ministers:

Greetings in Jesus’ name!

Due to the recent appointment of Flo Shaw as Director of the World Network of Prayer, our district board has appointed Esther Hunt as our South Texas District Prayer Coordinator. We welcome Sis. Hunt, who is a licensed minister and attends the church in Austin pastored by Charles Stephens. She has served as the section prayer coordinator for the Austin Hill Country section since the district was formed, and we know that she will do an excellent job now in leading the prayer ministry for our district.

On our calendars, we had scheduled a prayer workshop for this coming Saturday, February 12. However, we are going to postpone it until a later time in the year. Sis. Hunt will be communicating with us regarding the new date very soon, and we look forward to great things coming as a result of prayer.

May God bless you,

Danny G. Johnson
